Opening Symposium of the CAUSE Graduate School concludes at TUHH
18 June 2025

How can digital systems explain their behavior both precisely and comprehensibly? This question lies at the heart of CAUSE – Concepts and Algorithms for, and Usage of Self-Explaining Digitally Controlled Systems – a graduate school funded by the DFG since November 2024, involving three institutions: Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), the University of Bremen, and the University of Oldenburg.

Trustworthy Systems Lab Seminar
20 February 2025

On 12th February 2025, Ulrike Engeln presented her talk ‘Executable Explanations of Control Software’ at the Trustworthy Systems Lab Seminar series at the University of Bristol. In her presentation, Engeln introduced the CAUSE approach, which enables cyber-physical system controllers to explain their behavior. The talk motivated the abstract explanation pattern introduced by CAUSE, illustrated the concept of explanations for control software (where explanations are executable networks of timed automata), and presented the first research results on online piecewise approximation of control outputs.
