Prof. Dr. Barbara Hammer holds a Diploma degree in Mathematics (with distinction) from the University of Osnabrück since 1995. From 1995 to 2000, she worked as a research assistant in the Theoretical Computer Science group at the University of Osnabrück, where she received her PhD with distinction in Computer Science in 1999 with a dissertation on learning with recurrent neural networks. She completed her Habilitation in Computer Science at the same university in 2003, focusing on mathematical aspects of neural networks. From 2000 to 2004, she led a junior research group on ‘Learning with neural methods on structured data’ at the University of Osnabrück. She then served as Professor for Theoretical Computer Science at Clausthal University of Technology from 2004 to 2010. Since 2010, Prof. Hammer has held the position of Professor for Machine Learning (formerly Theoretical Computer Science for Cognitive Systems) at Bielefeld University. Her research has earned numerous accolades, including multiple best paper awards at prestigious conferences, and she has been invited as a guest researcher at several international institutions, including the Universities of Paris I, Pisa, Padova, and Birmingham.
